Tragedy rocked Chicago on New Year’s Day when beloved mom-of-three Suzanna Garcia lost her life in a savage hit-and-run.

The 38-year-old was discovered battered and unconscious in the passenger seat of a wrecked SUV after a high-speed crash left her abandoned near the Calumet River bridge on East 95th Street just before dawn. As the city rang in 2026, heartbreak shattered one family’s celebrations forever.

Police tape off a crime scene, Saturday, July 6, 2024, on the 2600 block of Ridgecrest Drive in Florence, Ky.

According to cops, the gray GMC rammed into a pole around 5 a.m., its front smashed, airbags deployed. But in a shocking twist, the driver vanished, leaving Garcia behind in the mangled vehicle instead of calling for help. Local business footage captured the harrowing crash, as the SUV careened wildly across the road before disaster struck.

Suzanna was rushed to the hospital with severe head and body injuries but didn’t survive. Police haven’t made any arrests, shrouding Suzanna’s death in painful mystery—and her devastated loved ones demand answers. “The person with her just ran,” her father Ascension Andrade told WLS, his voice full of anguish. “It makes no sense. Turn yourself in. Face what you’ve done.”

Garcia’s mother, Maricela, mourned the loss, insisting Suzanna might have pulled through if the driver had called for help. “Maybe she would still be here,” Maricela said, remembering her daughter’s big heart and the love she gave everyone.

The family’s suffering is compounded by uncertainty. “We’ll never have full closure,” Suzanna’s aunt Arcelia Pimentel shared, “but getting answers would ease our pain—even a little.” Pictures of the crash scene haunt them as they question what really happened in those final moments.

A GoFundMe page started by Joyce Gaa-Delacy has drawn more than $10,000 for funeral expenses, tributes pouring in for the woman remembered as ‘Suzy’—a vibrant soul gone far too soon.

Police and city officials have stayed tight-lipped, and the hunt for the driver continues as loved ones grieve and Chicago demands justice. Let’s hope someone comes forward to break the silence and bring closure to Suzanna Garcia’s heartbroken family.
