Minneapolis was rocked Wednesday as a 37-year-old woman was shot dead by an ICE agent in the middle of a routine traffic stop, igniting outrage and a wave of furious protests just blocks from the city’s famous immigrant markets.

The fatal encounter erupted about a mile from the spot where George Floyd lost his life in 2020, instantly drawing parallels and intensifying public anger.

Federal authorities are calling the shooting an act of self-protection. But Mayor Jacob Frey hasn’t held back, blasting the incident as ‘reckless’ and declaring it should never have happened. Police Chief Brian O’Hara confirmed the victim wasn’t the focus of any official investigation that day. Eyewitnesses described horrific scenes unfolding in the snow. One onlooker recounted that the woman’s wife was sobbing uncontrollably, covered in blood and clutching her partner. “She was holding her, screaming in the yard—there was blood everywhere, even brain matter on her,” the witness shared.

As news spread, hundreds surged onto the quiet residential streets, demanding justice and answers. Law enforcement has yet to release the name of the victim, but the crowd’s frustration keeps mounting.

Minnesota Senator Tina Smith weighed in on social media, reporting that the deceased was an American citizen and urging ICE agents to clear the area, warning that tensions were reaching a boiling point. With helicopters hovering overhead and the neighborhood blanketed by flashing lights, Minneapolis finds itself once again thrust into the national spotlight over controversial police action.
