A Florida mother is facing criminal charges after deputies say she turned a children’s playground dispute into a coordinated attack—allegedly directing her own kids to assault a 10-year-old boy and physically restraining him as they did.
Ketsy Ann Rivera, 41, was arrested following the incident and charged with contributing to the delinquency of a minor, child abuse without great bodily harm, and false imprisonment, according to the Osceola County Sheriff’s Office.
The confrontation unfolded Monday at a community park inside the Heritage Park Apartment Complex, where deputies were called to reports of a disturbance involving multiple children.
Investigators say what began as a typical argument among kids quickly spiraled into something far more serious.
According to authorities, several of the children involved in the initial dispute left the area and returned with their mothers—escalating tensions into a chaotic confrontation between adults and minors.
Deputies allege Rivera played a central role.
In a statement, officials said Rivera pushed her two children, ages 8 and 9, toward the 10-year-old victim and instructed them to hit him.
“She then grabbed the victim by his shirt, preventing him from leaving or defending himself,” authorities said.
The result, investigators say, was a three-on-one assault.
Responding deputies observed the boy had visible injuries, including significant swelling around his left eye. First responders evaluated him at the scene, and while his injuries appeared serious, he was ultimately cleared of life-threatening harm.
The child’s mother later arrived and requested that charges be filed.
Additional details from court records, obtained by local media, suggest the situation intensified after the 10-year-old allegedly insulted Rivera, calling her a vulgar name.
But officials say that did not justify what followed.
“She was actually holding him back where he could not even defend himself… It was three against one,” Osceola County Sheriff’s Office Capt. Kim Montes said. “It’s her job as a mom to deescalate this, not ramp it up—and that’s exactly what she did here. She took it to the next level.”
Authorities have not said whether any other individuals involved in the earlier fight between the children will face charges.
Rivera was booked into the Osceola County Jail and later released after posting a $12,000 bond. It is not yet clear if she has retained legal counsel or when she will next appear in court.
