A quiet Brooklyn morning turned into a scene of unthinkable violence when a woman allegedly attacked her own sister with a meat cleaver, leaving her severely injured and missing several fingers in what prosecutors say was a deliberate attempt to deliver a “death sentence.”
Amy You, 35, is accused of carrying out the brutal assault inside the family’s Sunset Park home on 49th Street near Seventh Avenue around 10:45 a.m. Friday, according to police and a criminal complaint.
Authorities say You unleashed a sustained and vicious attack, slashing her 36-year-old sister across the arms, legs, and stomach. The violence escalated to the point that multiple fingers were reportedly severed during the rampage, leaving the victim bleeding heavily on the floor.
The horrifying scene was discovered by the sisters’ father, who returned home to find chaos and blood throughout the residence. According to prosecutors, he encountered his daughter still holding the meat cleaver while the victim lay gravely injured.
In a disturbing twist, officials say You attempted to prevent her father from calling for help, allegedly grabbing the phone from his hands as he tried to dial 911.

Emergency responders ultimately transported the victim to a nearby hospital, where she survived the attack. As of Tuesday, her exact condition has not been publicly disclosed, though the extent of her injuries suggests a long and difficult recovery ahead.
Investigators say You later told authorities she intended to give her sister a “death sentence,” a chilling statement now central to the prosecution’s case. Despite the severity of the attack, police have not yet determined a clear motive.
You has been charged with attempted murder, assault, criminal possession of a weapon, and criminal mischief. During her arraignment in Brooklyn Criminal Court on Saturday, a judge ordered her held on $250,000 cash bail or $500,000 bond.
