A 35-year-old local woman landed in jail on charges of attempted murder after allegedly attacking her boyfriend with a kitchen knife in what police describe as a grisly domestic dispute.

Cathrin Hope Kennedy, whose mugshot was released by Marion County authorities, found herself at the center of a bloody crime scene Friday, January 2. Kenned supposedly dialed the Marion County Sheriff’s Office, bizarrely claiming her boyfriend had sliced his own throat and driven off.

But when deputies rushed to the home, they found a different story splattered across the kitchen floor—droplets of blood trail, a sizable kitchen knife, and more red on Kennedy’s right hand, reports say.

Meanwhile, the injured boyfriend—whose name is withheld—had headed straight to a nearby hospital. There, he allegedly told deputies a chilling tale: Kennedy, his live-in girlfriend of several months, had slashed his throat during a heated kitchen clash that same morning.

According to his account, a verbal fight ignited in the kitchen. Within moments, Kennedy allegedly grabbed a large knife, approached him, and pressed the blade deliberately across his neck. Clinging a hand towel to his wound, the man tore out of the house and drove himself to get emergency care.

An MCSO sergeant noted that the boyfriend had been drinking earlier that day—something the victim admitted—but insisted he was not responsible for his own injury.

Investigators approached Kennedy outside the residence. After being advised of her Miranda rights, Kennedy switched the narrative—claiming her boyfriend was drunk, violent, and “going crazy,” and that he slashed his own throat in a fit, then stormed out to his car, knife in hand. She asserted the shocking move happened outside, inside the vehicle.

Detectives, however, found holes in Kennedy’s story. They scoured the boyfriend’s car in the hospital lot and turned up empty-handed—no knife. Back at the house, a search warrant uncovered the apparent weapon in the kitchen sink. More blood spatter was traced throughout the living room, dining area, and—tellingly—the kitchen, indicating the attack unfolded indoors.

Kennedy didn’t make it far. She was cuffed, taken to Marion County Jail, and is being held without bond. The investigation is ongoing as authorities piece together the violent morning that ended with a man fighting for his life and a woman facing serious prison time.
