Hollywood bombshell Gwyneth Paltrow has dropped a sizzling revelation – claiming she was booted from a major movie gig thanks to all the tabloid frenzy around her breakup with Chris Martin.

The Oscar-winner, now 53, and Coldplay’s frontman, who’s 48, rocked fans back in 2014 when they split after nearly 11 years together, coining the now-famous phrase, ‘conscious uncoupling.’

Despite sealing the divorce deal in 2016, the stylish exes have managed to remain friendly, sharing parenting duties for their offspring: Apple, 21, and Moses, 19. But it seems surviving that very public split wasn’t all smooth sailing for Gwyneth’s career.

Chatting with Amy Poehler on Tuesday’s episode of Poehler’s podcast, ‘Good Hang,’ Gwyneth let slip that her plans to star in a film right after she and Martin parted ways were abruptly derailed. ‘There was a lot of nasty press, and I guess the studio thought, ‘This is a little too hot for us,’’ Gwyneth confessed, opting not to reveal the film’s name. Amy quipped, ‘So they didn’t want the drama?’ to which Gwyneth replied, ‘Exactly.’

Laughing off the situation, Gwyneth recalled, ‘It was just perfect! Getting divorced and then fired – couldn’t be better!’ That infamous ‘conscious uncoupling’ announcement may have made headlines worldwide, but not everyone loved it. When asked about the public’s wild reactions, Gwyneth understood the heated backlash. ‘I get why people took it so personally. There’s this sense that I messed up, but that was never what I wanted,’ she explained.

Back in 2014, the duo wrote about their split in a Goop blog post, hoping to part ways respectfully and continue as private co-parents. Later, in a brutally honest piece for British Vogue in 2022, Gwyneth admitted she wasn’t ready for the fury and ridicule that followed her statement. ‘People were shocked, then instantly angry and mocking. I’d never seen such intense reactions,’ she shared. ‘I was already pretty wrecked from the tough year, and the backlash made me recoil like never before.’

Still, Gwyneth eventually embraced the ‘conscious uncoupling’ movement. In a 2023 Instagram Q&A, she revealed her pride when fans told her the idea transformed their own breakups for the better. For now, it seems Gwyneth’s courageous approach to divorce wasn’t just a Hollywood headline—it’s shaped how people see the end of relationships, even if it did cost her a blockbuster role.
