A bizarre holiday showdown erupted in Twin Falls, Idaho, when a domestic spat over Christmas cookies reportedly ended in gunfire, police say.

Katheryn Welch, 53, now faces a laundry list of charges after her boyfriend took a bullet to the leg—allegedly during an argument about seasonal treats gone wrong.

Police tape off a crime scene, Saturday, July 6, 2024, on the 2600 block of Ridgecrest Drive in Florence, Ky.

The incident came to light after a frantic 911 call from a relative of the wounded man, who claimed the shooting had actually happened several days before authorities arrived at the couple’s home. Law enforcement said they arrived at Welch’s shared residence only to be greeted with silence, but eventually made their way inside. There, deputies discovered Welch’s boyfriend limping around, his pants revealing a bloody hole at the knee—a smoking gun wound, quite literally.

When deputies pressed him for details, the injured man confirmed his girlfriend had shot him, pointing to his bleeding knee as evidence. Police say Welch eventually walked out with her hands up, insisting to deputies the shooting was never intentional. According to court records referenced by KMVT and the Twin Falls Times-News, Welch claimed festivities spiraled after a cookie-related argument, ending in a disastrous ‘accident.’

Investigators uncovered more than just holiday drama—a search warrant exposed blood under a desk and a .22-caliber shell, though the actual firearm had mysteriously vanished. Officers say Welch admitted to tossing the gun out of the car window somewhere along the road. That’s not all; authorities also say they found methamphetamine and drug paraphernalia on the premises.

Welch was hauled off to Twin Falls County Jail and released after posting a hefty $75,000 bond just in time for Christmas week. Now, she’s awaiting her day in court, scheduled for January 9, 2026. ‘Tis the season for chaos, indeed.
