A disappearance that shook the community has come to a grim end as authorities confirmed the discovery of Jerica Hamre’s remains more than a year after she vanished without a trace.
The 30-year-old mother, who vanished in late June 2024 and was reported missing by her distraught parents on July 3, left friends and family agonizing over her fate for 18 months.
The break in Hamre’s baffling case came on December 17, when her body was found on a secluded farm property in Furnas County, near Oxford—a remote location nearly three hours away from Lincoln. Sources say the grisly find was made by someone surveying the farm for a potential sale and stumbled across the shed where Hamre’s remains had lain hidden.

Lincoln Police Captain Ben Miller expressed sorrow over Hamre’s tragic fate at Monday’s press briefing, acknowledging, “Jerica’s loved ones spent the past year-and-a-half desperately chasing answers.” Search teams, including locals and volunteers, scoured miles of wilderness, lakes, rivers and fields in a relentless search that, heartbreakingly, returned to the area where she was eventually recovered.
Investigators do not believe Hamre had any ties to the farm’s owners or the property itself, deepening the mystery around how she ended up so far from home. Captain Miller revealed that police believe Hamre traveled toward Oxford before her death and suggested her body may have been concealed on that farm for an extended period. While exact details on Hamre’s cause of death remain under wraps, authorities have classified the case as a homicide.
The hunt for answers now turns to a key suspect already locked up for charges unrelated to Hamre’s disappearance. Officials are keeping that individual’s identity a closely guarded secret, with formal charges yet to be filed. What connection—if any—exists between this person and Hamre remains unclear, but police insist there is no apparent link to the Oxford property where her remains surfaced.
Throughout this ordeal, Hamre’s children have remained in the care of her parents, clinging to hope that their mother would come home. As Captain Miller put it, “We prayed for Jerica to return alive and reunite with her family. While this isn’t the outcome any of us wanted, there is some solace in finally bringing her back to those who loved her.”
