A heated domestic dispute in New York took a dangerous turn when police say a woman allegedly threatened to burn down a home — while holding a flaming pillow.

Authorities in Seaford, Long Island, say the incident unfolded on the evening of April 11, when officers were called to a residence on Neptune Avenue following reports of a disturbance. What they encountered, according to police statements later reported by local outlets, was a situation that could have quickly escalated into something far more devastating.

The woman at the center of the case, Lisa Decaprio, 59, has now been charged with arson and harassment after investigators say she became the aggressor during an argument with a 63-year-old man who also lived in the home.

Police say the confrontation began as a verbal dispute, though the exact cause of the argument has not been disclosed. What is clear, however, is how quickly tensions escalated.

According to authorities, Decaprio allegedly began throwing objects at the man during the altercation. But the situation took a far more alarming turn when she is accused of setting a pillow on fire inside the residence.

At that point, police say, Decaprio allegedly issued a chilling threat: that she would “burn the house down.”

The image of a flaming pillow inside a home — combined with an alleged threat of arson — has raised serious concerns about how close the situation may have come to turning deadly. Fires in residential settings can spread rapidly, putting not only those inside but also nearby neighbors at risk.

Fortunately, authorities say the fire was extinguished before first responders arrived, preventing further damage or injury. The man involved in the dispute was reportedly unharmed, and no other injuries were reported.

Decaprio was taken into custody without incident later that evening. Police say she was first transported to a hospital for evaluation before being booked on the charges.

At her arraignment in Nassau County District Court, Decaprio pleaded not guilty to both charges. A judge set her bail at $10,000 cash, with additional bond options available. It remains unclear whether she has since been released.

While the incident did not result in physical harm, the charges reflect the seriousness of the allegations. Arson, even in its early stages, is considered a major offense due to the potential for widespread destruction and loss of life.

Cases like this also highlight how domestic disputes can escalate rapidly, sometimes with dangerous and unpredictable consequences. What begins as an argument can, in moments, spiral into actions that put lives and property at risk.

As the case moves forward, Decaprio is expected to return to court, where more details may emerge about what led to the confrontation — and how close the situation came to becoming a full-blown tragedy.

For now, authorities are emphasizing a simple but critical point: when fire is introduced into a conflict, the stakes change instantly — and the outcome can become irreversible in seconds.
