Jessica McClure Morales, known around the world as “Baby Jessica,” has been arrested after a reported domestic disturbance at her Texas home.

Morales, 40, was taken into custody on Saturday in Midland County and charged with assault causing bodily injury involving family violence, according to multiple reports. She was later released after posting bond.

Details about the incident remain limited. Authorities have not yet released an arrest affidavit, which could take up to 10 days.

Morales became a national figure in 1987 when she was just 18 months old. She fell 22 feet into a narrow well in her aunt’s backyard in Midland, Texas, sparking a massive rescue effort that drew attention across the country.

After 58 hours trapped underground, rescuers were able to pull her out alive. The dramatic rescue was broadcast nationwide and became one of the most widely followed news stories of the time.

The case later inspired the 1989 television movie Everybody’s Baby: The Rescue of Jessica McClure.

In the years since, Morales has largely stayed out of the spotlight. She has lived in Texas with her husband, Danny, whom she married in 2006 after meeting him the year before.

The couple has two children together, and Morales has previously spoken about living a quiet life after growing up in the public eye.

In a 2017 interview, she described her survival as a miracle.

“I don’t believe that any of it would’ve happened without God,” she said at the time.

Now, decades after the rescue that made her famous, Morales is facing a new chapter as the legal case moves forward.

Authorities have not released additional information about the alleged incident or the condition of the other person involved.
