A disturbing case out of Texas is unfolding as authorities say a woman confessed to helping carry out a brutal double murder—one that left both her mother and stepfather dead. At the center of the investigation is 29-year-old Cassandra Lange, whose alleged actions have shocked an entire community.
According to the Medina County Sheriff’s Office, Cassandra Lange and her partner, Joby Williams, 30, are both facing capital murder charges in the deaths of Cherry Rehbein, 54, and her husband, Stephen Rehbein, 58. The case, first detailed by local authorities and reported by regional outlets, paints a chilling picture of violence that unfolded inside a family home.
Investigators believe the tragedy began on a Monday at the Rehbein residence in Mico, Texas, a quiet community near San Antonio. Authorities allege that Lange and Williams killed Cherry Rehbein, Lange’s own mother, inside the home. But the violence didn’t end there.
Later that same day, when Stephen Rehbein returned home from work, deputies say he, too, was murdered.
For two days, the couple’s disappearance went unnoticed—until a concerned coworker reported that Stephen had failed to show up for work. That call prompted deputies to conduct a welfare check, leading to the first signs that something was terribly wrong.
When officers arrived at the home, they found no one inside, but what they did discover raised immediate alarm: bloody items discarded in a trash can outside the residence. Authorities quickly secured search warrants and began tracking the victims’ vehicles.
The investigation soon led them far from the scene.

One of the vehicles was located traveling roughly 2½ hours away in the Corpus Christi area. Inside the car were Cassandra Lange, Joby Williams, and two young children—a 6-year-old girl and a 1-month-old baby.
Authorities later confirmed that Lange is the mother of both children, while Williams is the father of the infant.
The children were immediately placed into protective care—the older child released to her biological father, and the infant turned over to state child services.
What happened next would break the case open.
According to the sheriff’s office, Lange confessed during questioning, admitting that she and Williams had killed both victims and disposed of their bodies in a ravine. That confession led investigators to a remote area near Medina Lake, where a difficult nighttime search began.
Eventually, deputies located two large black garbage bags hidden deep in a ravine. The contents were later confirmed to be the remains of Cherry and Stephen Rehbein, now sent for autopsy.
The motive behind the killings has not yet been publicly disclosed, and authorities say the investigation is still ongoing. However, the case has already left a lasting impact—particularly because of the family connection at its core.
A daughter accused of killing her own mother—and then allegedly participating in the murder of her stepfather—has left many struggling to comprehend how such violence could occur within a household.
Both Lange and Williams are currently being held on $1 million bonds as they await further court proceedings.
As more details emerge, this case continues to raise unsettling questions about family dynamics, trust, and the events that can lead to unimaginable acts of violence behind closed doors.
