A Georgia woman is at the center of a devastating case after authorities say her actions led to the death of a toddler and put multiple children in danger.
Police say 37-year-old Sherry Diane Magby is facing serious charges after allegedly leaving six young children alone for roughly 12 hours without food, resulting in the death of a 1-year-old child.
According to details first reported by local outlets, officers responded to a home in Douglasville, Georgia, on March 28 and were immediately struck by what they found inside. Investigators described the home as being in extreme disarray, with unsanitary conditions and a strong, foul odor throughout the residence.
Inside, police discovered six children between the ages of 1 and 10, with the oldest child left to care for the others.
Authorities allege that Magby left the children alone for hours, without ensuring they had adequate food or supervision. According to arrest documents, the children had very little to eat, and the situation had become so dire that the youngest child was reportedly eating roaches and ants out of desperation.
The discovery quickly turned tragic.
Officials confirmed that the 1-year-old died, though the exact cause of death remains under investigation. Authorities say more charges against Magby could be filed as additional details emerge.
Magby was taken into custody and is currently being held without bond, facing multiple counts of cruelty to children tied to the conditions in the home and the lack of care provided.
