A routine day at a Minnesota daycare center took a shocking turn when staff realized something was seriously wrong with one of their own.

What initially appeared to be a medical emergency quickly spiraled into a criminal investigation. And what police say they uncovered has left parents and the community stunned.

A 21-year-old daycare worker is now facing charges after authorities allege she returned to work intoxicated—and then fell on top of a child in her care.

According to reports first detailed by local news outlets, the incident unfolded on Feb. 23 at the Milestones Early Learning Center in Plymouth, Minnesota. Staff members initially contacted police out of concern, believing their colleague might be experiencing a panic attack. But when officers arrived, they say it became clear that something far more serious was happening.

Investigators allege that Aniya Keosongseng showed clear signs of intoxication. Police reported that she smelled strongly of alcohol, slurred her words, and struggled to maintain her balance. Surveillance footage later reviewed by authorities appeared to show her condition worsening as the day progressed.

The video reportedly captured a series of alarming moments.

At one point, Keosongseng was seen attempting to dress a child while appearing to nod off. Moments later, she picked the child up but lost her balance, falling backward into a wall. According to police, the child’s head struck the wall during the fall.

The situation escalated further when Keosongseng, still on the ground, tried to move toward the child. Authorities say she lost her balance again—this time falling directly on top of the child.

Despite the frightening nature of the incident, daycare officials later stated that no children were injured. Still, the images described in the complaint have raised serious concerns about safety and supervision in childcare settings.

Police say the situation did not end quietly.

When officers attempted to arrest Keosongseng, she allegedly resisted by pulling away and dropping to the ground. During the struggle, authorities claim she bit one of the officers on the leg.

A preliminary breath test reportedly revealed her blood alcohol content was 0.356—more than four times the legal limit for driving. According to the complaint, Keosongseng admitted to drinking alcohol during her lunch break before returning to work.

Due to her extreme level of intoxication, officers transported her to a hospital instead of jail.

The daycare center responded swiftly, confirming that Keosongseng was terminated immediately after the incident. In a statement, the facility said children were quickly moved to another room once staff realized something was wrong, and families were notified as the situation unfolded.

Keosongseng has since been charged with child endangerment and interfering with a peace officer, both considered gross misdemeanors. She was later released from custody and is expected to appear in court later this month.

While no physical injuries were reported, the case has sparked concern among parents and caregivers alike. For many, it raises troubling questions about how such a situation could occur—and what safeguards are needed to prevent it from happening again.

What began as a normal day ended in chaos, leaving behind a stark reminder of the responsibility placed in the hands of those entrusted with children’s care.
