A Texas man will spend decades behind bars after a disturbing pattern of threats, harassment, and violence against a woman he once dated escalated into a terrifying home invasion and assault.
Joshua Bermea, 20, has been sentenced to a total of 50 years in prison after pleading guilty to multiple charges stemming from incidents in 2023, according to authorities in Comal County. The case, which was detailed by local officials and reported by regional outlets, highlights how quickly a deteriorating relationship can spiral into dangerous and life-threatening behavior.
Prosecutors say Bermea’s actions were not limited to a single outburst but instead formed a pattern of escalating intimidation. In one particularly alarming episode, Bermea allegedly sent the victim around 250 text messages in a single day. The messages included threats to kill her, harm her family members, and damage her property—creating a climate of fear that authorities say ultimately turned violent.
The situation reached a breaking point in November 2023.
According to investigators, Bermea showed up uninvited at the woman’s home and forced his way inside. When she told him to leave, he refused. Instead, authorities say he took her phone—cutting off her ability to call for help—and physically assaulted her.

The attack marked a chilling escalation from prior behavior that had already raised serious concerns.
Weeks earlier, in September, the victim reported another frightening encounter. After ending their relationship, she said Bermea followed her in his vehicle while repeatedly calling and sending threatening messages. At one point, he allegedly told her he intended to crash into her car. In another message, he warned, “I’mma make you live in Hell,” according to prosecutors.
Authorities say these incidents demonstrate a clear progression from harassment to violence, underscoring the dangers that can arise in situations involving stalking and domestic abuse.
Bermea ultimately pleaded guilty to burglary of a habitation with intent to commit a felony—related to the home invasion—and possession of a controlled substance. A judge sentenced him to 40 years for the burglary charge and an additional 10 years for the drug offense, totaling 50 years behind bars.
Officials say the sentence reflects the severity of the crimes and the lasting impact on the victim.
Cases like this often serve as stark reminders of how warning signs—such as repeated threats, obsessive communication, and escalating behavior—can precede more serious acts of violence if not addressed early.
While the victim’s identity has not been publicly disclosed, authorities emphasized the importance of reporting threats and seeking help before situations worsen. Law enforcement agencies and advocacy groups continue to encourage individuals in similar situations to reach out for support and protection.
For many in the community, the case is both unsettling and instructive. What began as a relationship ended in a campaign of intimidation that ultimately resulted in serious criminal charges and a decades-long prison sentence.
As Bermea begins serving his time, the outcome offers a measure of justice—but also serves as a sobering example of how quickly personal conflicts can escalate into dangerous and life-altering crimes.
