An Arizona woman is facing a murder charge after police say a chaotic and deeply volatile love triangle ended in a fatal shooting inside her home.

Taylor Renee Roediger, 40, has been charged with second-degree murder in connection with the death of her former roommate, according to the Mesa Police Department.

The shooting occurred in the early morning hours of March 30 at a residence near Sossaman Road and Southern Avenue in Mesa, a suburb located east of Phoenix.

Authorities say the victim — whose name has not been released — arrived at the home late that night while intoxicated, attempting to reconnect with her ex-boyfriend, who was in a relationship with Roediger at the time.

According to court documents, Roediger first became aware of the situation after spotting the woman outside her home on a bedroom security monitor. She confronted her former roommate at the front door and asked her to leave, but the situation quickly escalated into a verbal argument.

In an effort to defuse the confrontation, Roediger left the home and went for a walk, telling police she hoped her boyfriend would persuade the woman to leave.

When she returned, the situation had only intensified.

Roediger told investigators she found the other woman inside her kitchen, naked, with her boyfriend. The victim allegedly asked if she could have sex with either the boyfriend or the couple, according to police.

A physical altercation followed.

Authorities say the victim made comments about the couple’s relationship and attempted to strike Roediger, who then retreated to retrieve her purse. She left the home a second time, but the conflict was far from over.

According to police, Roediger said she waited outside until it sounded like the two had gone into the bedroom. When she returned again, the argument resumed, and both the victim and the boyfriend allegedly threatened to “beat” her.

At that point, investigators say, Roediger armed herself.

Police allege she retrieved a handgun from behind the headboard of a bed. The victim then went into the bathroom and, according to authorities, made statements suggesting she might harm herself if left alone.

The situation rapidly spiraled.

Roediger told police the victim yelled, “Just shoot me,” during the confrontation. Believing the woman was near a wall shared by the bathroom and bedroom, Roediger allegedly fired a single shot through the wall.

The bullet struck the victim in the upper body.

She later collapsed near the front door and died from her injuries.

Roediger told investigators she did not intend to kill the woman and had only fired the weapon to scare her and force her to leave.

Police lights activated on an Evansville Police Department vehicle.

After the shooting, police say Roediger attempted to conceal the weapon, burying it in a neighbor’s planter box before hiding inside another neighbor’s recreational vehicle.

Officers located and arrested her a short time later inside the RV, just down the street from the home.

Roediger is currently being held at the Maricopa County Jail on a $500,000 cash-only bond.

The case remains under investigation.
