A trip to Walt Disney World — marketed as the happiest place on earth — has become the center of a disturbing legal battle, with one guest alleging that her pleas for medical help were ignored as her condition worsened, ultimately ending in her arrest and a night in jail.

Halen Holton, a Missouri woman, has filed a lawsuit against Walt Disney World Resort, the Orange County Sheriff’s Office, and others, claiming that employees and deputies failed to respond appropriately to what she describes as a medical emergency.

According to the lawsuit, Holton began experiencing severe symptoms — confusion, weakness, overheating, and a sense that her body was “shutting down” — during an April 11, 2025 visit to the park. Instead of receiving medical care, she says she was dismissed, mocked, and ultimately taken into custody.

Law enforcement records paint a different picture. An arrest report states that Holton was detained at Magic Kingdom after allegedly causing a disturbance by yelling in a public area. Deputies issued her a trespass warning and say she refused to leave. When officers attempted to detain her, she allegedly resisted by tensing her body and pulling away, leading to charges including trespass after warning, disorderly intoxication, and resisting an officer without violence.

But Holton’s lawsuit reframes those moments as the actions of someone in distress.

She claims her ordeal began earlier in the day after a chaotic travel experience involving a missed flight and a late-night arrival. At some point, she says she fled a “domestic violence” situation by bus, eventually arriving back on Disney property. Staff allegedly arranged for a third-party taxi and advised her to leave, but her condition deteriorated later that evening after she checked into a resort hotel.

Holton alleges that when she asked for help, she was met with indifference. A bus driver, she claims, told her he needed to finish his shift. Other staff members allegedly laughed at her and minimized her concerns, despite her telling them she had a complex medical history and had been treated by numerous doctors.

When deputies arrived, Holton says she tried to explain her symptoms. Instead, she claims she was prevented from leaving and arrested after asking her sister to record the encounter.

The lawsuit describes what happened next in stark terms. Holton alleges she was placed in a police vehicle without air conditioning while in distress. “I truly thought I was going to die,” she wrote, adding that she began saying her goodbyes on the patrol car’s camera system.

Officers, according to the complaint, suggested her condition may have been caused by an unspecified substance — something Holton denies.

After being transported to jail, Holton alleges her treatment worsened. She claims her clothing was forcibly removed and that she was left without adequate means to cool herself, eventually resorting to using toilet water. When she later received clean clothes, she says she suffered an accident and was accused of doing so intentionally.

Holton further alleges that as she prepared for release the following day, she was briefly locked back in her cell and forced to scrub off the words “911 help me” that she had written on the door.

After leaving custody, she says she drove herself to a hospital in Daytona Beach for treatment.

The lawsuit also notes that Holton has a history of serious medical issues, including organ failure and chronic pain. Her sister, who was present during the incident, reportedly experienced confusion as well.
