A confrontation in a Florida Walmart checkout line has led to criminal charges after police say a younger woman attacked a 79-year-old shopper—and then told her she “deserved it.”
Keri Estep, 34, has been charged with battery against a person over the age of 65 following the January 23 incident at a Walmart store in Sunrise, Florida.
According to police, the altercation began when Estep accused the older woman of cutting in line. The disagreement quickly escalated into a verbal confrontation before turning physical. Witnesses and investigators say Estep struck the woman in the chest and later kicked her in the side.
Body-camera footage obtained by local media captures the aftermath, with the victim telling officers that Estep called her an “old lady” and said she “deserved it.”
A security guard working at the store told police he saw the argument intensifying and attempted to intervene. Estep reportedly claimed that the older woman had hit her shopping cart, which contained her baby. The alleged victim denied that claim, insisting she had done nothing of the sort.

Despite the guard stepping between them, police say Estep maneuvered around him and kicked the older woman. The victim told officers she did not require medical attention but wanted to press charges.
When questioned by police, Estep initially maintained that she acted out of concern for her child’s safety, describing the older woman as aggressive. However, after officers reviewed surveillance footage that appeared to support the victim’s account, Estep acknowledged that her version of events was “inaccurate.”
She was arrested and booked into the Broward County Jail before posting $2,500 bail. A court date has not yet been announced.
