A Wyoming mother is behind bars after police say a marital dispute escalated into something far more sinister—an alleged plot to have her husband killed.

Authorities in Platte County have charged Molly Hamby, 28, with solicitation of first-degree murder, after investigators uncovered a series of text messages that appear to show she tried to enlist a friend to “make someone disappear.” The shocking case, first reported by regional outlets, has drawn attention for the chilling language and the role the couple’s children allegedly played in the motive.

Marriage troubles turn dangerous

According to police, Hamby and her husband had recently separated amid ongoing relationship issues. She had temporarily moved out of their home but returned on March 21 after the couple agreed to attempt reconciliation.

It was during that return that things took a dramatic turn.

Court documents say Hamby allowed her husband to look through her phone—a decision that ultimately led to her arrest. While reviewing her messages, he reportedly discovered a conversation between Hamby and a longtime friend that immediately raised alarm.

“Can you make someone disappear?”

The texts, according to investigators, show Hamby allegedly asking her friend—who works as a private investigator—if he could “make someone disappear.” The friend reportedly replied that he could.

Authorities say the conversation continued with Hamby hinting she had a “job” to discuss but preferred not to put details in writing. The two later arranged to meet in person at an auto parts store, where police believe the discussion escalated further.

After the meeting, Hamby allegedly sent a message expressing urgency, writing that the plan needed to happen “today if possible,” and referencing her fear that her husband would take custody of their children. In one message, she reportedly wrote, “He can’t have my kids.”

Husband alerts police

Disturbed by what he read, Hamby’s husband went to the sheriff’s office and showed authorities the messages. Investigators then contacted the friend involved, who initially described the interaction as a request for protection but later admitted that the conversation had turned toward harming the husband.

Police say Hamby also allegedly provided information about her husband’s whereabouts—details investigators believe were intended to facilitate an attack.

In addition to the murder solicitation charge, Hamby is also accused of asking the same friend to help forge her husband’s signature on paperwork related to a motorcycle title.

Confession and arrest

When questioned by police, Hamby reportedly claimed she had only been seeking help and protection. However, after being confronted with the text messages, authorities say she admitted that she had, in fact, wanted her husband killed.

She was arrested shortly after the interview and is currently being held in the Platte County Jail. Her bond status and next court date have not been publicly disclosed.

A case raising serious concerns

The case underscores how quickly domestic disputes can spiral into dangerous territory, particularly when custody fears and emotional tensions are involved.

While Hamby’s friend has not been charged, investigators continue to examine the full scope of the alleged plan and whether any additional actions were taken beyond the conversations.

As the legal process unfolds, the case serves as a stark reminder of the real-world consequences that can arise when anger and desperation intersect with intent.
