A chaotic scene unfolded in a Florida Walmart parking lot after police say an Alabama woman allegedly attacked two elderly shoppers — then continued to resist officers in a dramatic arrest that didn’t end when the handcuffs went on.

Allie Grace Barrentine, 25, is facing multiple charges, including battery on a person over 65, resisting an officer, and disorderly conduct, following the incident in Panama City Beach. The case, which gained wider attention after being detailed in a Law&Crime report, highlights a disturbing series of events that escalated quickly and continued even after police arrived.

A sudden confrontation in the parking lot

According to investigators, the incident happened on a Monday evening outside a Walmart Supercenter. Police say Barrentine was walking through the parking lot when she encountered a vehicle occupied by two older women — one driving and the other in the passenger seat.

What triggered the altercation remains unclear, but authorities say Barrentine suddenly became aggressive.

She allegedly began punching the vehicle, prompting the women to get out. That’s when things escalated further.

Police say Barrentine grabbed one woman’s arm and broke her bracelet, then pulled at her necklace. The second victim, also over the age of 65, reportedly suffered more serious injuries. According to the police report, Barrentine allegedly grabbed her by the throat, scratched her face, and punched her in the eye, leaving visible marks and swelling.

Signs of intoxication

When officers arrived at the scene shortly after, they quickly noticed signs that Barrentine may have been under the influence.

According to the arrest affidavit, she had a strong odor of alcohol, slurred speech, and difficulty standing upright. Police say she admitted to consuming both alcohol and cannabis prior to the incident.

Arrest turns into a struggle

What followed was not a routine arrest.

Officers say Barrentine became argumentative and refused to comply with commands to turn around and place her hands behind her back. Even after being physically guided against a vehicle, she allegedly attempted to pull away multiple times.

Once officers managed to place her in restraints, the situation still wasn’t over.

Police say Barrentine was switched into flexible restraints — but she allegedly slipped one arm free and again tried to resist. Even after being placed in a patrol car, she reportedly tampered with the restraints and freed one wrist, forcing officers to secure her again using a different method.

Facing multiple charges

Barrentine was ultimately taken into custody and booked into the Bay County Jail on a combined bond of $21,000. She is expected to appear in court in April as the case proceeds.

A troubling pattern

The incident has raised concerns not only because of the alleged violence, but also because both victims were elderly — a factor that can lead to more serious charges under Florida law.

While no motive has been clearly identified, the case serves as another example of how quickly public encounters can spiral out of control — especially when substance use may be involved.

For the two victims, what began as a routine trip to a store ended in a frightening and physical confrontation. For authorities, the incident didn’t just involve an alleged attack — it also became a challenge in safely bringing a suspect under control.

As the legal process unfolds, the case stands as a stark reminder of how unpredictable situations can become — even in the most ordinary settings.
