An Idaho woman is facing felony charges after police say she shot a man in the leg during a drunken argument—then went upstairs, got into bed, and fell asleep as if nothing had happened.
Diane Wetherbee, 65, has been charged with aggravated battery with the use of a deadly weapon following the Saturday night shooting at a home in Challis, according to court records.
Authorities say Wetherbee had been drinking with the victim when the two began arguing. At some point during the dispute, the man allegedly handed her a .380 pistol and dared her to shoot him.
According to investigators, she did.
The man told police that Wetherbee fired a single shot, striking him in the leg. What happened next, authorities say, was just as shocking: Wetherbee allegedly walked upstairs to a bedroom and passed out.
Another person inside the home reported hearing the gunshot but did not witness the shooting itself.
Deputies responded to the residence around 11:23 p.m. and found Wetherbee asleep in an upstairs bedroom. The firearm believed to have been used in the shooting was discovered on the floor nearby, surrounded by blood.
Investigators reported finding additional blood throughout the home, including a pair of bloody boots near the back door.
Wetherbee was taken into custody at the scene. According to court documents, she later admitted to shooting the man while being transported to the Custer County Jail.

The victim survived the shooting, though details about his condition have not been publicly disclosed.
Wetherbee is currently being held on a $25,000 bond and is scheduled to appear in court on March 30 for a preliminary hearing. A judge has also issued a no-contact order, barring her from any interaction with the victim.
If convicted, she could face up to 15 years in prison.
