A Florida woman who tried to hire a hitman from a satirical website to kill her 3-year-old son will not spend a single day in prison—despite pleading guilty to multiple serious charges tied to the disturbing plot.

Jazmin Paez, 20, entered a guilty plea to solicitation of first-degree murder, unlawful use of a communications device, and tampering with or fabricating evidence. The charges stem from a July 2023 incident in which she submitted a request through a parody site known as “Rent-a-Hitman,” asking for her young child to be killed.

The site’s owner, Robert Innes, flagged the request to authorities after becoming alarmed by its specificity and apparent seriousness, prompting a police investigation in Miami.

Under a negotiated plea agreement, Paez will avoid incarceration in exchange for more than a decade under strict supervision. Her sentence includes two years of intensive community control followed by 12 years of reporting probation. If she violates any conditions, she faces up to 40 years in prison.

Prosecutors outlined a deeply troubling background during the hearing, describing Paez as a teen mother who was “ill-equipped” to care for her child. Assistant State Attorney Ayana Duncan said the child may have been conceived through an incestuous relationship, and that Paez’s own parents—who are also the child’s grandparents—had been involved in raising the child.

According to prosecutors, the alleged plot may have been triggered by a teenage relationship Paez entered after her child was born. When that relationship ended after she disclosed she had a child, Paez was described as “devastated.” Duncan suggested the breakup may have been a catalyst for the crime, framing it as an attempt to “get rid of the child” in hopes of rekindling the relationship.

Despite the severity of the charges, prosecutors pointed to Paez’s conduct while on pretrial release as a factor in the plea deal. She graduated from high school and has nearly completed an associate degree in science, developments the state argued suggested potential for rehabilitation.

Still, officials emphasized that the outcome was a compromise. Prosecutors rejected a more lenient youthful offender sentence, instead settling on what Duncan described as a “middle ground” that balances accountability with the possibility of reform.

As part of her sentence, Paez must undergo behavioral therapy, a mental health evaluation, and comply with any recommended treatment. She is also permanently barred from contacting the child.

Her parental rights have been terminated. The child has since been adopted by Paez’s mother.
