A quiet Portland neighborhood was shaken after a man allegedly carried out a brazen daytime attack inside a family home — approaching a mother with chilling familiarity before forcing his way into her life.

Police say 43-year-old Judson C. Defir broke into the home around 11:30 a.m. on March 15, catching the woman off guard as she cared for her two young children. According to court documents, she heard footsteps coming up the stairs before the man called out, “Honey, I’m here,” impersonating someone she trusted.

Moments later, investigators say, the situation turned violent.

Defir allegedly grabbed the woman while she was holding her 10-month-old baby and forced her into a bedroom, pushing her face-down onto a bed. In a desperate attempt to protect her children, the woman pleaded for a moment to move the infant to safety. After placing the baby in a crib, she fled to another room with her 3-year-old, barricading the door with a bookcase and screaming for help.

The suspect fled before police arrived, but officers quickly located and arrested him nearby.

Authorities now believe the attack may be part of a broader pattern. Defir is accused of assaulting multiple women in the same area, including an incident at a nearby church where he allegedly inappropriately touched another victim shortly before the home invasion. Court records suggest at least four women — and possibly more — may have been targeted.

The woman at the center of the home invasion was found “sobbing” when officers arrived, according to the affidavit.

Defir is currently being held without bail on charges including first-degree attempted rape and first-degree kidnapping
