A tragic case out of Kansas City is drawing renewed attention—not only for the devastating loss of a young child, but for the troubling details surrounding his mother’s actions in the moments before and after the incident.

Five-year-old Grayson O’Connor died after falling 17 stories from a high-rise apartment window, a fall investigators say occurred inside the home he shared with his mother, 29-year-old Corrine O’Connor. As previously reported in coverage of the case, O’Connor has now pleaded guilty to involuntary manslaughter and was sentenced to 10 years in prison.

According to court documents, when police arrived at the scene in November 2023, they found the young boy with catastrophic injuries in an alley below the building. Investigators quickly traced the fall back to an open window in the family’s apartment.
