An Ohio mother who shared her life with thousands online has died weeks after undergoing a cosmetic procedure she had long anticipated — a tragedy that has left her family searching for answers.
Rachel Tussey, a 47-year-old TikTok creator and mother of three, was pronounced dead Tuesday night in Cincinnati after being taken off life support earlier this month. Her death came after she was rendered brain-dead following what was supposed to be a routine “mommy makeover” tummy tuck procedure.
Her husband, Jeremy Tussey, confirmed the devastating news in a message shared on a GoFundMe page.
“Last night, my wife Rachel lost her battle while in hospice care,” he wrote. “Rachel was an amazing wife, mother, and person who touched so many lives. We will carry her memory with us always.”
In the weeks leading up to her surgery on February 25, Tussey had been documenting her journey for her roughly 27,000 TikTok followers. She spoke openly about her excitement, describing the abdominoplasty as something she had been “waiting a really long time for.”
In what would become her final video, she expressed confidence and optimism.
“I’m in good hands. I know God’s got my back. Let’s do this,” she said.
But shortly after the procedure, something went terribly wrong.
According to her family, Tussey became unresponsive soon after surgery and was placed on a ventilator. Days later, she was declared brain-dead — a condition indicating a complete and irreversible loss of brain function.
After holding onto hope, her family ultimately made the painful decision to remove life support.
Now, her husband is raising serious concerns about what happened in those critical moments following surgery.
“To me, it looks like incompetency,” he said. “Somebody dropped the ball and killed my wife.”
Tussey’s surgeon, Dr. Shahryar Tork, has disputed that account, stating that the operation itself was completed successfully and without complications. He said Tussey was awake and in “excellent condition” when he last saw her in recovery.

The gap between those two accounts — a routine procedure versus a fatal outcome — remains at the center of the unfolding questions.
Complications from cosmetic surgery are rare but can include serious risks such as blood clots, infections, or adverse reactions to anesthesia. In cases where a patient becomes brain-dead, it often points to a catastrophic event such as oxygen deprivation, though the exact cause in Tussey’s case has not been publicly confirmed.
As her family mourns, the story has resonated far beyond Ohio, particularly among her followers who watched her final days unfold in real time.
What began as a hopeful transformation journey — shared in short, upbeat videos — has ended in a deeply public loss, leaving behind three children, a grieving husband, and a digital trail of optimism that now reads as heartbreak.
For those closest to her, the focus now shifts from anticipation to accountability.
