A deeply disturbing case out of Europe is drawing international attention after investigators revealed new details suggesting a murdered beauty influencer may have still been alive when she was placed inside a suitcase and buried.
According to reporting from the Daily Mail and European outlets, 32-year-old Stefanie Pieper, a beauty influencer from Graz, Austria, was allegedly killed by her ex-boyfriend, Patrick M., 31, following an argument at her home in late November. While the suspect has reportedly confessed to strangling her, recent forensic findings have introduced a chilling new possibility about how the crime unfolded.
Authorities say Pieper suffered severe neck injuries consistent with strangulation, as well as significant facial trauma. However, a key question remains unanswered: exactly when she died. Forensic experts were unable to determine whether death occurred immediately, leaving open the possibility that she was unconscious—but still alive—when she was placed into a suitcase.
Officials have acknowledged that scenario cannot be ruled out.
Investigators allege that after the attack, the suspect drove around for hours before placing Pieper into a turquoise suitcase—the same one she had reportedly used for her beauty work. He then transported her across the border into Slovenia. There, authorities believe he initially buried her in a relative’s garden before later digging her up and moving her remains to a more remote forest location in an apparent attempt to conceal the crime.

Pieper’s disappearance quickly raised concern. She had last been seen at a holiday gathering, and friends became alarmed when she failed to show up for a scheduled modeling job the next day. Her phone was found switched off, and her dog was discovered alone in her apartment—signs that something was seriously wrong.
Even more haunting are the final messages she sent before vanishing. According to reports, Pieper told a friend there was a suspicious person near her building, describing a “dark figure” in the stairwell. Those messages would be the last anyone received from her.
The investigation gained momentum after a photographer who had planned to work with Pieper went to her apartment and encountered her ex-boyfriend. Feeling uneasy, he alerted police. Officers soon discovered her phone discarded nearby, and neighbors reported hearing loud noises around the time she disappeared.
The suspect was later arrested in Slovenia after authorities found him near a burned-out vehicle in a casino parking lot. He reportedly offered no clear explanation for the fire. Officials are now seeking his extradition to Austria.
As the case continues to unfold, it has shocked the public not only for its brutality but also for the haunting uncertainty surrounding Pieper’s final moments. Investigators are continuing forensic analysis in hopes of determining exactly what happened—while her family and friends are left grappling with a devastating loss and unanswered questions.
