A routine food delivery in North Carolina turned into the key clue in a disturbing homicide investigation after a driver noticed something was terribly wrong at an apartment complex.
According to reports cited by Law&Crime and local news outlets, the grim discovery began when a DoorDash driver arrived at an apartment in east Charlotte to deliver an order. While at the door, the driver reportedly noticed a strong, unpleasant odor coming from inside the residence. Concerned, the driver mentioned the smell to someone inside the apartment.
Court documents indicate that the driver was then told there was a dead woman inside the home. Authorities were alerted, prompting police to conduct a welfare check at the apartment.
When officers from the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department arrived around 4:30 p.m., they discovered the body of 26-year-old Evelin Enamorado-Cisnado. Investigators said her body had been hidden in a closet area and wedged behind a door, partially concealed with towels.
Police soon arrested 23-year-old Lhis Brito-Costa in connection with the case. According to court records, Brito-Costa has been charged with first-degree murder.

Investigators believe the killing may have been connected to a personal dispute. Documents cited in the reporting indicate Brito-Costa allegedly became upset after learning that Enamorado-Cisnado had begun seeing someone else. Authorities allege the confrontation ultimately led to the fatal shooting.
Family members of the victim expressed heartbreak and shock after learning the details of the case. In a social media post referenced in the reporting, a relative said the body was discovered thanks to the delivery driver who noticed the unusual smell and raised the alarm.
Enamorado-Cisnado’s loved ones say she was originally from Honduras, and the family is now working to return her body to her home country for burial.
Meanwhile, Brito-Costa is being held without bond and is scheduled to return to court on April 2 as the case moves forward.
The tragic case highlights how an ordinary moment — in this case, a food delivery — unexpectedly led to the discovery of a crime that might otherwise have remained hidden for longer. Authorities have not released additional details about the timeline of events leading up to the alleged killing, and the investigation remains ongoing.
