A young Washington couple is behind bars after prosecutors say their 7-week-old baby boy suffered catastrophic injuries consistent with violent shaking — and died days later while investigators uncovered disturbing details about what happened inside the home and hospital room.

Alyssa Jade Vanderbeck, 19, and Mark Anthony Labaco Clamor, 21, were charged Thursday in Pierce County, Washington with second-degree murder following the death of their infant son, identified in court records as N.C. Clamor also faces an additional charge of homicide by abuse.

The baby died Monday, March 9, five days after he was rushed to Mary Bridge Children’s Hospital in Tacoma in critical condition.

Doctors soon discovered a devastating list of injuries.

According to a probable cause affidavit obtained by investigators, the infant had suffered subdural hemorrhages, retinal hemorrhages, anoxic brain injury and possible healing rib fractures — injuries medical professionals said were consistent with abusive head trauma.

An autopsy later concluded that the baby’s tentative cause of death appeared to be homicide caused by abusive head trauma.

Investigators say the injuries followed a violent moment inside the couple’s home.

Clamor admitted during questioning with Lakewood Police Department detectives that he had handled the baby roughly.

According to the affidavit, the father said he picked up the infant when he became fussy and jerked him in frustration.

During that motion, Clamor told investigators he saw the baby’s head snap back “pretty hard” before he attempted to pull the child to his chest.

Police say Clamor later acknowledged he realized at the time that the motion had been too rough.

But investigators say what happened next may have worsened the tragedy.

Rather than immediately calling for help, the couple allegedly waited about an hour after noticing the infant was in severe distress before dialing 911.

The emergency call came on March 4, when Clamor told dispatchers that his baby was not breathing.

By the time first responders arrived, the infant was already in critical condition.

Vanderbeck told investigators that earlier that morning she and Clamor had put the baby down and then taken a shower together.

Afterward, she said they heard their son making strange “grunting” noises.

When they checked on him, she claimed the baby appeared unresponsive.

In a panic, the couple allegedly tried to stimulate him — including shaking him — while attempting to wake him.

Instead of immediately seeking medical care, Vanderbeck reportedly filmed the child on her phone and sent videos to her parents and others asking for help.

Investigators say the footage showed the baby clearly struggling to breathe.

The infant appeared to be posturing, gasping and grunting — classic signs of severe neurological distress.

At one point, according to the affidavit, the baby appeared to stop breathing altogether.

Even more troubling to authorities was what happened after the baby was hospitalized.

On March 5, the day after the infant arrived at the hospital, a social worker informed police that the baby was unlikely to survive.

Yet investigators noted that the couple had already gone home before returning later.

When officers encountered them at the hospital, one officer described their demeanor as unusual given the severity of the situation.

Days later, investigators say they discovered a TikTok video posted by Vanderbeck.

The video, filmed inside the bathroom of the hospital room where her son was being treated, shows her slowly dancing to upbeat music.

The clip was posted on March 8 — one day before the baby died.

Both Vanderbeck and Clamor are currently being held in the Pierce County Jail on $1 million bail.

It is not yet clear whether either suspect has obtained legal representation.
