The arrest of a 75-year-old New York man has stunned residents in Queens after police linked him to the gruesome death of his much younger wife—whose remains were discovered months apart across the borough.
According to authorities, Rupchand Simboo, 75, was arrested Wednesday and charged with murder in the death of his wife, Salisha Ali, 34, a woman originally from Trinidad and Tobago. Police say the couple lived together in South Ozone Park after meeting in 2023 and maintaining a long-distance relationship before Ali moved to New York in 2024.
Investigators say the disturbing case began unfolding last fall when sanitation workers made a chilling discovery. As first reported by the New York Post, a human torso wrapped in tape and rope was found inside a garbage bag near Idlewild Park, a marshland area not far from John F. Kennedy International Airport.

The remains were badly decomposed and missing the head, arms and legs. However, detectives noted that distinct tattoos on the torso helped investigators begin identifying the victim.
For months, the investigation remained unsolved. Then, earlier this month, detectives made another grim discovery that helped connect the case. On March 5, a human head was found at the Jamaica Bay Wildlife Refuge, roughly 10 miles from the original location where the torso had been discovered.
Authorities say forensic specialists were able to link the remains and confirm they belonged to Ali.
According to police officials, early examinations suggested the body had been dismembered using sharp instruments, including what investigators believe may have been a knife for soft tissue and a saw for bone.
Ali had last been seen July 13 while on a FaceTime call with a family member, according to law enforcement sources. In a strange twist, Simboo reportedly filed a missing persons report for his wife the very same day she was last seen.
Investigators have not yet publicly revealed where the killing is believed to have taken place or what may have led to the alleged murder. Authorities say the case remains under active investigation.
Simboo was taken into custody at the couple’s Queens home Wednesday morning. In addition to murder, he also faces charges including tampering with physical evidence and obstructing governmental administration.
The shocking case has left many neighbors and residents struggling to process the disturbing details, as detectives continue working to piece together exactly what happened in the months leading up to Ali’s death.
