A growing political controversy is surrounding former Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem and her longtime political ally and alleged lover Corey Lewandowski, following new allegations about Lewandowski’s conduct while serving in a powerful advisory role at the Department of Homeland Security (DHS).

According to reports first detailed in coverage highlighted by the New York Post, multiple sources claim Lewandowski privately boasted that he could operate without fear of consequences because he believed former President Donald Trump would pardon him if necessary.

One source alleged that Lewandowski made blunt remarks suggesting he felt untouchable while working as a special government employee, a designation that allowed him to serve in the federal government without being a full-time official. The comments reportedly came during conversations about his work and authority inside DHS.

Lewandowski has strongly denied the claims. In a statement responding to the report, he said he never asked for a pardon and had no reason to receive one, rejecting the suggestion that he felt immune from accountability.

Still, the allegations have intensified scrutiny of Lewandowski’s role at the agency. As an advisor closely aligned with Noem, he reportedly held significant influence over internal operations — including approving contracts and participating in personnel decisions.

His position within DHS had already been controversial. Lawmakers and administration officials have raised questions about a $220 million federal advertising campaign tied to the department that prominently featured Noem. Critics have questioned whether Lewandowski had connections to firms that benefited from the contracts linked to the campaign.

Both Lewandowski and Noem have denied wrongdoing related to the contracts and have also denied speculation about an inappropriate personal relationship between them.

However, political tensions escalated during congressional hearings where Noem was questioned about Lewandowski’s role and influence inside DHS. According to reports referenced by the Post, her responses during testimony — particularly when asked about her relationship with Lewandowski — contributed to mounting pressure inside the administration.

The controversy ultimately culminated in a major leadership shakeup. President Trump recently removed Noem from her position as Homeland Security Secretary after the hearings.

Lewandowski, who had served as a key advisor during Trump’s 2016 campaign before later working with Noem at DHS, is also expected to leave the department.

Despite the political fallout, some longtime observers say Lewandowski has a history of navigating controversies and remaining influential in conservative political circles.

Whether the latest allegations will have lasting consequences remains unclear, but the situation has once again placed one of Trump’s most polarizing political operatives at the center of Washington intrigue.
