A routine traffic stop in western Wisconsin spiraled into a bizarre chain of events that ended with a woman allegedly fleeing police, crashing into a mailbox, breaking into a stranger’s home and leaving behind both methamphetamine and a adult toy in the bathroom.

Shanna Eichman of Galesville now faces a long list of criminal charges following the strange March 3 incident in Trempealeau County.

According to the criminal complaint, the episode began when police attempted to pull Eichman over for driving a vehicle with incorrect license plates.

Instead of stopping, investigators say Eichman accelerated and attempted to outrun officers.

Police reported that Eichman drove erratically during the pursuit, running at least one stop sign and striking a mailbox outside a residence along the route.

The chase came to an abrupt halt when Eichman pulled the vehicle into a yard on Cox Road in the Town of Trempealeau.

Authorities say she then jumped out of the car and fled on foot, leaving officers to investigate the vehicle she abandoned behind.

Inside the car, police reportedly discovered an injection kit used to inject illegal drugs along with a syringe that later tested positive for methamphetamine.

Eichman’s husband was still sitting in the passenger seat when officers approached the vehicle, according to investigators.

While police were still searching the area for Eichman, they received an unexpected call at 8:52 p.m.

A homeowner on State Highway 35 reported that a woman had just broken into their house and was asking for help hiding from police.

According to the complaint, Eichman had entered the residence and asked the occupants if she could hide from law enforcement.

The homeowner told officers she instructed Eichman to go down to the basement and hide there. But instead of letting the suspect remain free inside the house, the homeowner reportedly locked Eichman in the basement and called police.

When officers arrived at the residence, they ordered Eichman to come upstairs from the basement.

Before emerging, Eichman allegedly made an unusual admission to police.

She reportedly told officers that she had left a adult toy in the basement bathroom sink.

The odd revelation was followed by another discovery.

A minor who lived in the home told police that he had found a plastic bag containing a crystalline substance beneath the basement sink.

According to investigators, Eichman admitted that the bag belonged to her and said the substance inside was methamphetamine.

The bizarre sequence of events added several additional charges to the case.

Eichman is now facing charges including burglary, second-degree recklessly endangering safety, operating a vehicle while fleeing police, possession of methamphetamine, possession of drug paraphernalia, operating while revoked and a second offense of operating while intoxicated.

Authorities say the incident could have ended far worse given the dangerous driving during the attempted police chase.

Instead, it concluded with an unusual basement standoff, a bag of meth, and a strange piece of evidence left behind in a bathroom sink.

Eichman is currently being held in custody on a $7,500 cash bond.

Her next court appearance is scheduled for March 17.
