A Florida woman was arrested after deputies say she left her 12-year-old daughter alone and crying at a bar inside Universal Orlando’s CityWalk entertainment district while she went to a nearby nightclub.

Amanda Laurel Thorpe, 33, of Lake Mary, is facing a child neglect charge following the incident late Saturday night, according to the Orange County Sheriff’s Office.

Deputies were called to the CW Shoreline Bar at approximately 10:30 p.m. after staff and patrons reported a juvenile sitting alone inside the busy CityWalk venue.

When officers arrived, they found the 12-year-old girl visibly distressed.

According to an affidavit cited by local outlet News 6, the child was “visibly upset, crying, and sitting alone” when deputies made contact with her.

Investigators say the situation began after Thorpe and her daughter had been at the bar together earlier in the evening.

According to witness statements included in the report, an unidentified patron said something that upset Thorpe.

At some point during the encounter, Thorpe reportedly said she wanted to go to the Red Coconut Club — a nightclub located elsewhere in the CityWalk complex.

Her daughter allegedly told her she was tired and wanted to return to their hotel room instead.

The affidavit states that Thorpe became angry during the exchange.

According to investigators, Thorpe flipped off her daughter, shouted an expletive at her, and then walked out of the bar — leaving the girl behind.

Deputies later located Thorpe inside the Red Coconut Club.

According to the report, she was found alone on the dance floor holding an alcoholic drink.

When questioned by law enforcement, Thorpe allegedly claimed she believed her daughter had been with her the entire time.

Deputies reported signs that Thorpe had been drinking.

According to the affidavit, officers observed that her eyes were red and bloodshot, she smelled of alcohol, and she appeared unsteady on her feet.

Meanwhile, the young girl remained at the bar where staff and customers had grown concerned about her being alone.

Authorities contacted the child’s grandfather, who arrived to pick her up.

Officials also notified the Florida Department of Children and Families following the incident.

The CityWalk area, located next to Universal Studios Orlando, is a large entertainment district filled with restaurants, bars, shops, and nightclubs that attracts thousands of visitors each night.

Law enforcement said leaving a minor alone in that type of environment raised serious safety concerns.

Thorpe was taken into custody and later released after posting a $2,500 bond, according to court records.

She has since entered a plea of not guilty to the child neglect charge.

The case is now moving through the court system as authorities continue reviewing the events of that night.
