Former Vice President Kamala Harris has canceled several upcoming California appearances tied to her memoir “107 Days,” sparking fresh discussion about the cost of taxpayer-funded security surrounding her national book tour.

According to reports highlighted by the New York Post, Harris pulled out of scheduled events in Sacramento, San Diego, and Anaheim, which had been planned for early April. Ticketing company Ticketmaster notified attendees that the cancellations were due to a “scheduling conflict”, and refunds were issued to those who had purchased tickets.

The events were part of a nationwide promotional tour for Harris’s book, which reflects on her brief but high-profile presidential campaign. While the California stops have been removed from her official tour schedule, at least one appearance — a Denver event on April 2 — remains planned.

The decision comes amid criticism about the use of California Highway Patrol (CHP) officers providing securityduring Harris’s tour events.

Reports indicate that dozens of CHP officers have been assigned to protect Harris as she travels for speaking engagements and book signings across the United States. Some critics argue that the deployment of state law enforcement resources raises questions about how taxpayer funds are being used.

State officials have not publicly disclosed the exact number of officers assigned to Harris or the total cost of the security detail. However, a retired CHP officer told local media that the expense would likely be substantial.

Republican California Assemblyman Tom Lackey, who previously spent nearly three decades working for the CHP, also commented on the issue. Lackey said the cost of providing a large security presence for the tour is likely “significant,” though the exact figures remain unclear.

Harris’s tour has already included several stops in California earlier this year, including appearances in Los Angeles, San Francisco, and Oakland, where she spoke about her political career and experiences on the national stage.

Despite the cancellation of the three upcoming California events, the broader book tour continues. Harris is still expected to travel to North Carolina, South Carolina, and Georgia later in April for additional appearances tied to the memoir.

For now, it remains unclear whether the canceled California events will eventually be rescheduled or permanently removed from the tour.

As Harris continues promoting her book across the country, the discussion surrounding security costs and the use of public resources is likely to remain part of the conversation surrounding the tour.
