A routine shopping trip quickly turned into a startling scene at a Walmart in Magee, Mississippi, after police say a woman began smashing merchandise with a baseball bat inside the store.

According to local authorities, officers were called to the store after multiple shoppers reported a disturbance in one of the aisles. Witnesses said a woman was swinging a bat and destroying items on the shelves, causing alarm among customers and employees.

Police later identified the suspect as Sopheia Anglitte Ducksworth, who was taken into custody at the scene without further incident. Authorities said the destruction mainly involved plates and other merchandise, leaving broken items scattered across the aisle.

The unusual incident was reportedly captured on video, with footage circulating online showing the chaotic moment as the woman repeatedly struck the products with the bat.

After responding to the scene, officers arrested Ducksworth and charged her with felony malicious mischief, a charge that applies when property damage exceeds a certain value. Police said the damage caused in the store is believed to be more than $1,000.

Officials also credited quick calls from concerned shoppers for helping police respond quickly before the situation escalated further. The Simpson County Sheriff’s Office also assisted in the response.

Ducksworth now faces criminal charges as the case moves through the legal system. Authorities also reminded the public that all suspects are presumed innocent unless proven guilty in court.
