President Donald Trump has appointed Erika Kirk, the widow of conservative activist Charlie Kirk, to serve on the U.S. Air Force Academy Board of Visitors, a group responsible for advising on key aspects of the academy’s operations and student experience.
The appointment places Erika Kirk in a role that oversees areas such as morale, discipline, curriculum, academic standards, and institutional operations at the prestigious military academy, according to information provided on the academy’s official website. The Board of Visitors periodically reviews conditions at the academy and reports findings to government leaders.
Kirk currently serves as CEO and board chair of Turning Point USA, the conservative youth organization that her late husband founded. Charlie Kirk was widely known for building the group into one of the largest conservative student movements in the country before his death in September 2025, which shocked supporters and political allies across the United States.
Interestingly, Charlie Kirk himself had already been selected by Trump to serve on the same advisory board last year, according to reporting originally published by Fox News. Erika Kirk’s appointment is being viewed by supporters as a continuation of his work and influence.
Supporters of the move say the appointment honors Charlie Kirk’s legacy while bringing a strong voice to discussions about leadership and values at the academy.
Rep. August Pfluger, a Texas Republican and chairman of the Air Force Academy Board of Visitors, praised the decision and said he personally encouraged the president to appoint Erika Kirk to the role.
“I applaud President Trump for appointing Erika Kirk,” Pfluger said in a statement cited by Fox News. He added that she is the right person to continue Charlie Kirk’s work of inspiring the next generation of service members and supporting the academy’s mission.
Pfluger, himself a graduate of the U.S. Air Force Academy, emphasized that he looks forward to working with Kirk as the board carries out its oversight responsibilities.
Since her husband’s death, Erika Kirk has stepped further into the public spotlight. As the leader of Turning Point USA, she has continued to advocate for the organization’s focus on engaging young Americans in political discussions and expanding conservative ideas on college campuses nationwide.

In public appearances, she has spoken about the challenges of navigating grief while continuing her husband’s mission, often emphasizing the role of faith and community in helping her move forward.
The Air Force Academy Board of Visitors plays a significant advisory role but does not manage daily operations. Instead, its members provide independent oversight and recommendations to ensure the academy maintains high standards for leadership development and military education.
Erika Kirk’s appointment comes as the academy continues preparing future officers for service in the U.S. Air Force and Space Force, making the board’s guidance an important part of shaping the institution’s direction.
For supporters, the appointment represents both a tribute to Charlie Kirk’s influence and a new chapter in Erika Kirk’s growing role in national public life.
