A night that began with drinks at a bar ended in a killing that a 19-year-old woman says was driven by fear and fury.

Claudia Torres is now facing a first-degree murder charge after police say she shot her friend, 28-year-old Austin Lamb, three times inside a Parkersburg, West Virginia home late on the night of Feb. 27. Lamb was later found slumped on a couch with multiple gunshot wounds.

Torres herself called 911 shortly after the shooting — and according to investigators, immediately admitted what she had done.

“This guy who I thought was my friend tried to grope me… he tried to grope me… so I shot him three times,” Torres allegedly told dispatchers, according to court documents obtained by local NBC affiliate WTAP.

Police say the call set off a fast-moving investigation that quickly led officers to the scene and then to Torres herself.

When officers arrived at the residence, they discovered Lamb collapsed on a couch with multiple gunshot wounds. Emergency responders attempted lifesaving measures, but Lamb was pronounced dead at the scene.

Investigators soon began piecing together what happened earlier that night.

According to court records, Torres and Lamb had been out at a bar with two other people on Feb. 27. Witnesses told police that tensions between the two escalated during the drive home, with the pair arguing before arriving at the residence.

Once they got back, Lamb went inside the house while Torres remained outside near her truck.

Police say that moment proved pivotal.

According to witnesses, Torres went to her purple Dodge Ram before storming into the house moments later. Once inside, investigators say she allegedly opened fire on Lamb as he sat on the couch.

Several shots rang out.

Witnesses told police Torres then walked back outside and fired the gun one more time before fleeing the scene in her truck.

People outside the home also reported hearing Torres shout, “That’s what you get for messing with me,” according to investigators.

Surveillance footage later reviewed by police reportedly backed up the witness accounts of Torres leaving the scene in the pickup truck.

Authorities quickly began searching the area and located Torres roughly a mile away at a nearby gas station shortly after midnight on Feb. 28.

Police say she was detained without incident.

Even during transport to the police department, investigators say Torres continued to make spontaneous statements about the shooting.

According to court documents, she repeated claims that Lamb had tried to grope her before she pulled the trigger.

Those claims — and what actually happened in the moments before the gunfire — will likely become central questions as the case moves forward.

Torres made her first appearance in court on March 4, where a judge ordered that she remain in custody without bond.

She has been formally charged with first-degree murder.

Her next court appearance is scheduled for March 10, when prosecutors are expected to begin outlining the case against her.
