Authorities in Texas say a woman was arrested after she allegedly drove through an active crime scene and ran over the body of a man who had already been killed in an earlier crash.
Tionne Spears, 26, was taken into custody on Feb. 27 after deputies say she ignored barricades and drove directly into the investigation area on Highway 211 in Bexar County.
The shocking moment unfolded as investigators were already working the scene of a fatal accident involving a 61-year-old man who had been struck by two vehicles earlier that night.
According to Bexar County Sheriff Javier Salazar, the victim had been walking across a dark stretch of roadway when the first incident occurred.
During a press conference attended by KSAT, Salazar explained that the first vehicle appeared to clip the man with its side mirror, knocking him to the ground.
A second vehicle approaching the area was unable to stop in time and accidentally ran the man over, fatally injuring him.
Both drivers stopped immediately and cooperated with investigators, and authorities say they are not suspected of any criminal wrongdoing.
Investigators then secured the scene and began documenting evidence.
The roadway was blocked off with barricades and the victim’s body was covered while investigators took measurements and conducted their analysis.
That is when deputies say Spears arrived.
According to Salazar, Spears’ vehicle allegedly drove around the barricades and entered the restricted investigation area.
Her car then ran over the victim’s body as it lay on the roadway.
Two investigators who were working at the scene were nearly struck as the vehicle approached, but they managed to move out of the way in time and were not injured.
Spears was quickly stopped by authorities at the scene.
Investigators believe she may have been under the influence at the time of the crash.
Salazar said deputies found a substance believed to be khat inside her vehicle. Khat is a stimulant plant commonly used in parts of East Africa and the Middle East and can produce noticeable effects on the body.
Authorities are awaiting toxicology results to determine whether Spears was intoxicated and what substances may have been in her system.

Spears was taken to the Bexar County Adult Detention Center and now faces multiple charges, including driving while intoxicated, abuse of a corpse and possession of a controlled substance.
For Sheriff Salazar, the bizarre sequence of events stands out even after decades in law enforcement.
“I’ve been doing this job 33 years now and never heard of somebody barreling through a crime scene like that and running over a dead body that’s already on the roadway,” Salazar told reporters.
Investigators are still working to determine why the victim had been walking along the dark highway before the initial accident.
