An Ohio man is facing a murder charge after authorities say the death of his wife—initially described by him as a suicide—was anything but.
According to reports cited by WBNS and CrimeOnline, Kyle Long, 35, has been charged with the murder of his wife, Rachel Long, months after she was found dead inside their home in Madison County, Ohio. Investigators say the mother of two had been stabbed at least 17 times, raising immediate questions about the circumstances surrounding her death.
The case dates back to October 2025, when Kyle Long called 911 late at night to report that his wife had allegedly taken her own life. Authorities say he actually called twice—hanging up during the first call before dialing again just minutes later.
During the second call, Long reportedly told dispatchers that Rachel had stabbed herself multiple times while he was in another room.
When deputies arrived at the scene, Long told them his wife had recently wanted to separate from their marriage, suggesting emotional turmoil may have been involved.
But as investigators began piecing together what happened, the explanation quickly began to unravel.
According to the criminal complaint, Rachel Long’s autopsy revealed at least 17 stab wounds, including injuries on both of her hands that appeared to be defensive wounds—a sign that she may have been trying to protect herself during an attack.

Investigators also noted inconsistencies between the evidence and Kyle Long’s version of events. He reportedly told deputies that his wife had been holding the knife in her right hand, yet the defensive wounds on both hands raised doubts about that account.
Additional concerns surfaced when detectives reviewed Rachel Long’s final communications. A friend who had been texting with her shortly before her death told investigators that Rachel never mentioned feeling suicidal or upset. Instead, the two were chatting casually about what they planned to wear to an upcoming concert.
Those messages contradicted the idea that Rachel was planning to harm herself.
Detectives also reported that Kyle Long’s statements changed over time. According to the criminal complaint, his answers during a second interview with investigators conflicted with details he provided earlier.
Following a four-month investigation, authorities ultimately concluded that the evidence pointed toward homicide rather than suicide.
Kyle Long was arrested earlier this week and appeared in Madison County Municipal Court on Friday for his arraignment. A judge set his bond at $1.5 million.
His defense attorney, Sam Shamansky, has strongly denied the allegations, calling the incident a tragic event and insisting his client bears “no responsibility.”
The case has left a community shaken, especially given the disturbing nature of the allegations and the family tragedy at the center of the investigation.
Prosecutors will now begin preparing their case as the legal process moves forward, while Rachel Long’s loved ones continue to seek answers about what happened that night.
