A heartbreaking tragedy in Arkansas has left a community searching for answers after a mother and her two young children were found dead just one day after a critical court hearing in her divorce case.
Authorities say the bodies of 40-year-old Charity Beallis and her two children were discovered on Dec. 3, 2025, inside their home in Bonanza, Arkansas, according to the Sebastian County Sheriff’s Office. The grim discovery came only hours after a court appearance that investigators now believe may have played a role in the devastating outcome.
According to reporting by Gray News, deputies were called to the residence after concerns were raised about the family’s welfare. When officers arrived, they found Beallis and her children dead inside the home.
The deaths immediately triggered a detailed investigation involving forensic experts, phone data and other evidence. Over the following weeks, investigators began piecing together the events that unfolded in the days leading up to the tragedy.
Officials revealed that Beallis had attended a final hearing in her divorce and custody case on Dec. 2, just one day before the family was found dead. Court transcripts reviewed by investigators indicated that Beallis had expressed a desire to reconcile with her estranged husband during the hearing. However, the reconciliation did not occur.
Instead, the court ordered that the couple begin joint custody of their children, marking a major turning point in the case.
Authorities say the timing of the court decision and the events that followed quickly became a focus of the investigation.
Autopsies performed by the Arkansas State Crime Lab later determined that Beallis died by suicide, while the deaths of her children were ruled homicides. Based on the evidence collected, investigators say they believe the case to be a murder-suicide.
Sheriff’s officials said extensive investigative work has so far found no evidence that another person was involved in the deaths.
According to investigators, phone records, vehicle tracking data and home security alarm information all indicated that no one else entered the residence during the time period when the deaths occurred.
“The sheriff’s office has not found any evidence thus far to indicate any other conclusion,” officials said, referencing the findings from the state crime lab.
For the small town of Bonanza, the tragedy has left residents grappling with shock and grief. The deaths of a mother and her children have shaken the community, particularly given the circumstances surrounding the case and its connection to an ongoing custody dispute.
Authorities have not publicly released additional details about the children or the family’s history, but officials confirmed the investigation has now concluded based on the evidence gathered.
Cases involving family violence are often deeply complex, with investigators working to understand the factors that lead up to such devastating events.
For now, the Sebastian County Sheriff’s Office says the findings of the investigation and the medical examiner’s conclusions remain consistent: a tragic case that unfolded inside the home, leaving a community mourning an unimaginable loss.
