Authorities in Los Angeles County are asking the public for help as they search for a suspect connected to the fatal shooting of a 40-year-old woman whose body was discovered in a remote field last month.

Detectives with the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department say Elana “Rae” Kazanes was found dead on February 19 in Lake Los Angeles, an unincorporated community in the Antelope Valley. Her body was located in an open field near 140th Street East and East Avenue E after authorities were alerted to the scene.

According to investigators, Kazanes had suffered multiple gunshot wounds and was pronounced dead at the scene. Officials have not yet released details about a possible motive or whether the victim knew her attacker.

The case has now become a priority for homicide detectives, who are actively working to identify and locate the person responsible. Authorities say they are urging anyone who may have seen suspicious activity in the area or who has information about Kazanes’ final movements to come forward.

So far, investigators have not publicly identified a suspect, and it remains unclear exactly what led to the deadly shooting.

The sheriff’s department is encouraging community members to assist the investigation, stressing that even small details could help detectives piece together what happened.

Anyone with information about the case is asked to contact Sgt. Giovanni Lampignano or Sgt. Marc Boskovich with the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department’s Homicide Bureau.

For those who wish to remain anonymous, tips can also be submitted through Los Angeles Crime Stoppers by phone, through the P3 Tips mobile app, or online.

As investigators continue to search for answers, authorities hope someone in the community may hold the key to helping solve the killing and bringing justice for Kazanes.
