Police in Utah are searching for a man they say may have fled to California after his wife was found dead inside a camper trailer in what authorities are now investigating as a homicide.

Investigators in Saratoga Springs identified the man they want to question as 57-year-old Alvaro Jose Urbina Rojas. His wife, 43-year-old Jeusselem Elieth Genes Vitola, was discovered dead inside an RV owned by Rojas at a storage lot in Draper, Utah.

Police said the discovery came after the couple had initially been reported missing by concerned family members.

According to authorities, relatives last saw the Venezuelan couple on Feb. 26 when Rojas left home around 10 a.m. to drive Vitola to work. She never arrived, prompting family members to contact police when the pair failed to return home later that day.

The missing persons investigation quickly expanded as detectives attempted to determine where the couple had gone.

Eventually, officers obtained a search warrant for a camper trailer belonging to Rojas that was parked at a storage facility in Draper. When detectives entered the vehicle, they found the body of a woman believed to be Vitola inside.

Authorities immediately reclassified the case as a homicide investigation.

Police say Rojas has since fled the state of Utah and is believed to be somewhere in California.

Investigators tracked activity connected to Rojas, including credit card purchases and vehicle sightings, that suggested he traveled west after the couple disappeared. Surveillance cameras captured the vehicle — a gray 2005 Toyota Sequoia — moving through cities including Cedar City, St. George and Las Vegas before heading toward California.

Officials are now asking for the public’s help locating him.

Rojas is described as 5 feet 9 inches tall and weighing about 193 pounds, with black hair and brown eyes. Police say he may still be driving the gray Toyota Sequoia bearing a Utah license plate with the number T409YB.

Authorities have not yet announced how Vitola died, and autopsy results are still pending as investigators work to determine the exact cause of death.

The couple had been married for 19 years and shared two children. They originally immigrated to the United States from Venezuela roughly a decade ago and had built a life in Utah.

While police say there had been no prior reports of domestic violence involving the couple, family members told investigators that the pair had recently been discussing divorce and had experienced some arguments.

The investigation has drawn widespread attention within Utah’s Venezuelan community, where friends and neighbors say the couple appeared happy just weeks earlier when they celebrated the opening of their food truck business.

Now, investigators are trying to piece together what happened in the days leading up to Vitola’s death — and where her husband may be.

The search for Rojas has expanded beyond Utah, with local police coordinating with federal authorities and law enforcement agencies in California.

Anyone with information about Rojas or the vehicle he may be driving is being urged to contact the Saratoga Springs Police Department.

As detectives continue tracking leads, officials say locating Rojas is now a critical step in uncovering what led to the death of a woman whose life ended inside a locked camper trailer hundreds of miles from where her family last saw her alive.
