A rising music star is now at the center of a chilling homicide investigation that has stunned fans and shaken two states.
David Burke — better known to millions as singer D4vd — has been identified as the primary target in the death of 14-year-old Celeste Rivas Hernandez, according to newly unsealed court documents in California.
The records, obtained this week, reveal that authorities believe Burke “may be involved” in committing one count of murder under California law. The disclosure comes amid an ongoing Los Angeles grand jury investigation into the teen’s death — a process that had previously been kept under strict seal.
The case burst into public view last fall when police discovered Celeste’s remains inside the trunk of a Tesla linked to Burke. The vehicle had first been spotted parked near a rental home in the upscale Hollywood Hills neighborhood known as the Bird Streets. Days later, after residents reported an abandoned car with Texas license plates, it was towed to a Hollywood lot — where investigators made the grim discovery.
According to the unsealed documents, officers found two bags containing body parts inside the vehicle. Authorities described a strong odor of decomposition and insects present in the trunk area. A cadaver bag in the front storage compartment allegedly contained severed arms and legs, while a second bag underneath reportedly held additional dismembered remains.
Celeste’s body was found on September 8 — just one day before what would have been her 15th birthday.

Despite the disturbing details now made public, officials have not released a cause of death. A judge previously blocked the county medical examiner from disclosing autopsy findings as the investigation continues. Authorities have confirmed the case is being treated as a homicide.
The legal battle intensified when Burke’s family members in Texas — including his mother, father and brother — attempted to fight subpoenas requiring them to testify before the California grand jury. A Texas judge rejected their effort, ruling they must comply and travel to California to provide testimony.
Prosecutors and the Los Angeles District Attorney’s Office have declined to comment on the active grand jury proceedings. Representatives for Burke have not publicly responded to requests for comment.
As the grand jury continues its work, the investigation appears to be entering a decisive phase. A grand jury’s findings could determine whether formal charges are brought against the Houston-born artist, whose career has rapidly risen in recent years.
For now, unanswered questions loom large — including how the teen died and what evidence prosecutors may ultimately present. The case has left a community grieving and fans watching closely as authorities piece together what happened in the final days of Celeste Rivas Hernandez’s life.
With testimony underway and scrutiny intensifying, the spotlight has shifted from the stage to the courtroom — and the outcome could have profound consequences.
