Former Vice President Kamala Harris didn’t mince words when reacting to President Trump’s latest State of the Union address, calling the speech “full of lies” and comparing parts of it to a classroom “show-and-tell.”

In an interview Wednesday on “The Parnas Perspective,” hosted by Aaron Parnas, Harris said she watched Trump’s first official State of the Union of his second term — and came away unimpressed.

“I watched it. It was full of lies,” Harris said, arguing that when the president wasn’t making false claims, he was offering what she described as simplistic boasts that ignored the struggles of everyday Americans. She said the address failed to reflect the financial pressures many families face, pointing specifically to rising costs, health care expenses and housing affordability.

Harris suggested the speech felt disconnected from reality at a time when many Americans say they are feeling squeezed. Instead of addressing those challenges directly, she said, Trump delivered what she characterized as recycled talking points and self-congratulation.

Some critics of the speech have described it as predictable or lacking substance, and Harris echoed that sentiment. She said there was little new in the president’s remarks and accused him of misrepresenting both his record and his plans for the future.

Former Vice President Kamala Harris listens to Martin Luther King Jr.’s “I Have a Dream” speech as she is taken on a tour of the National Civil Rights Museum at the Lorraine Motel in Memphis, Tenn., on January 15, 2026. Harris was in Memphis for an event at The Orpheum for her book “107 Days.”

Trump, for his part, used the address to highlight what he described as major achievements during his second term. He spoke of a dramatic national “transformation” and promised continued economic and political gains. He also sharply criticized Democrats, framing his administration’s policies as a clear break from previous leadership.

The speech came at a politically sensitive moment. Trump has faced scrutiny in recent months over several high-profile issues, including immigration enforcement, the cost of living, foreign policy decisions and renewed attention on documents tied to convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein. Polling has shown mixed approval ratings as his administration navigates those controversies.

Harris’ reaction underscores the continuing rivalry between the two political figures. The former vice president ran against Trump in the 2024 presidential election in a fast-paced campaign that ultimately ended with his return to the White House. Though she has not formally announced plans for 2028, her name is frequently mentioned among potential Democratic contenders for the next presidential race.

Her sharp critique of Trump’s address could signal how Democrats plan to frame the debate heading into the coming election cycle — focusing on affordability, health care costs and economic anxiety.

As Washington digests the president’s speech, the political back-and-forth shows no sign of slowing. Trump is defending his record and projecting confidence about the country’s direction. Harris, meanwhile, is positioning herself as a voice for voters she says are struggling — and making clear she intends to challenge the narrative presented from the House chamber.

With years left before the next presidential contest, the tone of that clash is already taking shape.
