A 27-year-old woman has been charged in connection with a shooting that left a man injured in Chicago’s Gold Coast neighborhood Friday night, marking the first reported shooting of 2026 on the Near North Side.

According to Chicago police, Eboni Evans faces one count of aggravated battery for allegedly discharging a firearm during an altercation in the 100 block of West Maple Street. Authorities said the incident occurred around 10:14 p.m. and appears to have stemmed from a dispute that escalated into a physical confrontation.

Police indicated that the altercation was believed to be domestic in nature. During the confrontation, a handgun was drawn and a single shot was fired, striking a 40-year-old man in the left foot. Officials did not release details about the relationship between Evans and the injured man.

Emergency responders from the Chicago Fire Department treated the victim at the scene before transporting him to Northwestern Memorial Hospital. He was reported to be in good condition following the incident.

Investigators recovered a firearm from inside a vehicle at the scene, according to police. Evans was taken into custody shortly after the shooting. An initial review by officers indicated that she was legally licensed to carry a concealed firearm.

Authorities have not released additional details about what led up to the dispute or whether charges could be expanded as the investigation continues. Evans is scheduled to appear for a detention hearing on Monday, where a judge will determine whether she will remain in custody while the case proceeds.

The shooting occurred in the Gold Coast, an affluent neighborhood on Chicago’s Near North Side that has seen relatively limited gun violence compared to other parts of the city. Police noted that the incident represents the first reported shooting in that area in 2026.

Officials have not indicated whether alcohol or other factors may have played a role in the altercation. Detectives continue to review evidence gathered at the scene, including the recovered firearm, as they work to piece together the events that led to the gunfire.

As the case moves through the court system, further details are expected to emerge regarding the nature of the dispute and the circumstances surrounding the shooting.
