A Bakersfield man has been arrested following the death of his 23-year-old girlfriend, whose severe injuries raised suspicions after he reportedly told authorities she had slipped in the shower.

Emergency responders were called to Adventist Health Bakersfield just before 11 p.m. on Feb. 7 after Crystal Marie Falcon was brought in with critical injuries. According to court documents cited by local outlets, Falcon had extensive trauma that investigators say did not align with an accidental fall.

Medical personnel and police noted that Falcon’s body showed signs of significant physical harm, including bruises and abrasions consistent with being restrained, possible cigarette burns, broken bones and what authorities described as visible deformities. The severity and pattern of the injuries prompted further investigation.

When officers examined the southwest Bakersfield home where Falcon had been found unresponsive, they reported discovering blood spatter in multiple areas, including the bathroom, bedroom and hallway. Court filings also indicated that blood was found on a crib inside the residence.

Falcon was initially hospitalized in critical condition but died from her injuries on Feb. 13, nearly a week after being admitted. Following her death, police arrested 29-year-old Brandon Grimaldi in connection with the case.

Grimaldi is facing charges related to domestic violence resulting in great bodily injury. He has also been charged with child endangerment. Authorities cited the presence of blood on a crib belonging to a child with disabilities as part of the basis for that additional charge.

In a public statement, the Bakersfield Police Department said it remains committed to addressing domestic violence and pursuing accountability in cases involving serious harm. Officials have not publicly detailed a motive but indicated that the investigation remains ongoing.

Falcon was the mother of two young children, including one with special needs. A GoFundMe page established in her memory describes her as a loving mother and seeks financial support for funeral expenses and for the care of her children during what organizers called an incredibly difficult time. The fundraiser’s organizer wrote that the goal is to provide Falcon with a dignified farewell while also helping her children adjust in the aftermath of the tragedy.

Authorities have not released further details about the events leading up to Falcon’s injuries. It remains unclear what explanation Grimaldi may offer in court regarding the circumstances of her death. He is scheduled to return to court next month.

The case has drawn attention locally due to the graphic nature of the injuries described in court filings and the broader issue of domestic violence. Law enforcement officials have emphasized the seriousness of such allegations and reiterated their commitment to supporting victims and their families.

As the legal process unfolds, the focus remains on determining what happened inside the Bakersfield home and ensuring justice for Falcon and her children.
