What began as a reported home invasion in Tipp City has now turned into a murder prosecution, with police alleging the crime scene was staged to mislead investigators.

Caleb Flynn, 39, has been charged in the death of his wife, 37-year-old Ashley Flynn. Authorities say he shot her inside their home and then attempted to make it appear as though an intruder was responsible.

Flynn was arraigned Friday via video from jail, where he pleaded not guilty to charges that include murder, felonious assault and evidence tampering. During the proceeding, he told Judge Samuel Huffman that he was not a danger and asked for consideration so he could care for his daughters. The court set his bond at $2 million.

Officers were first dispatched to the family’s home after a 911 call reporting a burglary and shooting. When police arrived, they found Caleb Flynn and the couple’s two children at the residence. Ashley Flynn was pronounced dead at the scene.

Recordings from the emergency call capture Flynn telling dispatchers that someone had broken into the house and fatally shot his wife. He described significant blood at the scene and said he did not know whether the alleged intruder was still inside.

Days later, investigators announced Flynn’s arrest, stating they believe the break-in account was fabricated. Police allege evidence at the home contradicted the burglary narrative and instead pointed to a homicide carried out inside the residence.

Flynn’s attorney, Patrick Mulligan, has criticized the case, suggesting authorities moved too quickly and warning about the risk of focusing prematurely on a surviving spouse when other leads may exist.

Police Chief Greg Adkins rejected that characterization, saying the case unfolded methodically and that investigators followed the evidence as it developed rather than rushing to conclusions.

Ashley Flynn was a familiar figure in the local school community, working as a substitute teacher and coaching middle school volleyball. In a public statement, Tipp City Schools described her as a positive and caring presence whose impact extended beyond the classroom and the court.

The case remains pending as Flynn awaits further court proceedings.
