Jennifer Garner and Ben Affleck may have ended their marriage more than a decade ago, but their relationship today stands as a model of amicable co-parenting and mutual respect. Though occasional public appearances have fueled speculation about a possible romantic reunion, both actors have made it clear that their bond is rooted in family, not reconciliation.
Garner and Affleck, who were married for nearly 10 years before announcing their separation in 2015, share three children: Violet, 20, Seraphina (also known as Fin), 17, and Samuel, 13. In the years since their divorce, they have consistently prioritized their roles as parents, often appearing together at school events, holidays, and family outings. A recent example included a Red Sox game last summer, where the former couple looked relaxed and united alongside their children.
Their easy dynamic has sometimes sparked rumors—particularly following Affleck’s recent divorce from Jennifer Lopez—but those close to the situation have emphasized that the pair are simply supportive exes who have worked hard to reach a peaceful place. Garner herself has acknowledged that getting there was not simple. In a recent interview, she reflected on how difficult the breakup was, describing the end of their marriage as the loss of both a partnership and a friendship. She explained that while public scrutiny was challenging, it was the personal reality of a family changing shape that proved most painful.
Over time, however, Garner says healing and forgiveness allowed them to redefine their relationship. She has spoken about the importance of giving space for growth, noting that time can open the door to new forms of connection—even friendship—after heartbreak. Today, she and Affleck co-parent with what she describes as “peace and equanimity.”

Affleck has repeatedly expressed gratitude for their dynamic. In interviews, he has called himself fortunate to have Garner as a co-parent, praising her as an exceptional mother and a strong partner in raising their children. He has emphasized that while their marriage did not work, their shared commitment to their kids has always remained steady. According to Affleck, both he and Garner believe it is crucial for their children to see their parents treat one another with respect, regardless of their marital status.
That shared priority has been evident in moments large and small. Garner supported Affleck during his 2018 return to rehab, underscoring her belief that their children’s well-being comes first. She has long maintained that if her children love someone deeply, she will always find a way to maintain a respectful relationship with that person.
Despite the warmth between them, Affleck has addressed speculation about a reunion, stating plainly that while he loves and respects Garner, they are better suited as co-parents than as spouses. He has acknowledged that their marriage had challenges and tensions, but stressed that respect was always the foundation.
Garner, who has been dating businessman John Miller since 2018, has also expressed a sense of closure. Where she once lamented the loss of certain dreams tied to marriage, she now feels confident that she and Affleck will celebrate future milestones—like their children’s weddings—together in a joyful way.
Though their romance is firmly in the past, the evolution of Garner and Affleck’s relationship demonstrates that with time, effort, and shared purpose, former partners can build a new chapter centered on family and mutual admiration.
