A quiet residential street in Tipp City became the focus of a sweeping police operation before dawn Monday after a woman was shot inside her home, an incident authorities are treating as a homicide tied to a reported break-in.

The victim was identified by police as Ashley Flynn, 37. She was pronounced dead at the scene, officials said.

Tipp City police said the call came in at about 2:31 a.m. on Feb. 16, sending officers to the 900 block of Cunningham Court on a report of a burglary in progress in which a resident had been shot.

When officers entered the house, they found Flynn’s husband and the couple’s two children inside, police said. Investigators did not release information about the conditions under which the shooting occurred or whether anything was taken from the residence.

Police locked down the home and broadened the response to the surrounding neighborhood, setting up a perimeter while officers searched for possible suspects. K-9 teams were brought in and an unmanned aerial system, commonly referred to as a drone, was used to scan the area, authorities said. Despite the extensive effort, no suspect was located.

Family members were notified and came to the scene to help care for Flynn’s husband and children, police said. The Miami County Victim Witness Program also responded to provide services to the family.

Detectives and crime scene technicians from Tipp City, working alongside agents from the Ohio Bureau of Criminal Investigation, continued processing the scene and pursuing leads Monday as the investigation moved forward.

Officials described the inquiry as still in its early phase and said more information would be made public as it becomes available.
