The Union City Police Department confirmed the arrest of Alicia Hughes, who works for the Randolph Eastern School Corporation, after an investigation into alleged inappropriate conduct involving a minor.

Police were first alerted to a reported battery that took place overnight. During that inquiry, investigators learned that Hughes’ husband allegedly found her with an 18-year-old Randolph Eastern student and confronted them. Authorities say Hughes was injured during that confrontation. The Randolph County Sheriff’s Department is handling the separate battery investigation.

As detectives continued their work, they say evidence surfaced indicating Hughes had also been involved in a sexual relationship with a minor. Investigators allege the relationship included at least five instances of sexual intercourse.

Following the investigation, Hughes was taken into custody and charged with five counts of child seduction tied to the alleged relationship with the minor student. She was booked into the Randolph County Jail and is being held on a $25,000 cash-only bond.

Union City police thanked the Randolph Eastern School Corporation for its cooperation and transparency throughout the investigation, emphasizing the district’s focus on student safety.

The case remains under investigation. Anyone with additional information is asked to contact the Union City Police Department.
