Carlie Irsay-Gordon is quickly proving that her influence stretches far beyond the Indianapolis Colts’ front office.

The new Colts owner, who stepped into the role following the death of her father, longtime franchise leader Jim Irsay, has been honored with a major global award recognizing leadership and humanitarian impact. On Feb. 13, 2026, Irsay-Gordon received the International Citizen of the Year award, an honor presented by the International Center, a respected Indianapolis-based nonprofit organization.

The International Center has a long history of promoting Indianapolis as a city with strong global connections in business, education, diplomacy, and culture. Its Citizen of the Year award is not tied to sports achievements, but instead highlights individuals whose work has helped strengthen international engagement while making a meaningful civic or humanitarian impact.

For Irsay-Gordon, the recognition marks a major milestone in what has already been a headline-making first season as the official leader of the Colts organization.

Although she had been involved in the franchise for years behind the scenes, her first year as owner has shown that she is not interested in simply holding the title. Instead, she has taken an active and visible approach, closely monitoring team decisions, staying involved in football operations, and maintaining regular communication with head coach Shane Steichen. Her presence around the organization has sent a clear message to fans and the NFL that the Colts’ transition into the next era of leadership would be hands-on rather than symbolic.

The Colts also began the season with an unexpected surge, starting 7-1 and giving the franchise a renewed sense of optimism after several years of inconsistency. For much of the season, Indianapolis appeared to be on track for a return to the playoffs—something the team has not achieved since the 2019-2020 season.

However, the team’s momentum took a major hit after quarterback Daniel Jones suffered an injury. Without their star under center, the Colts struggled to maintain their winning pace and ultimately failed to secure enough victories to qualify for the postseason.

Still, even with the disappointing finish, the early success helped shift the tone surrounding the franchise and offered hope to a fanbase that has been waiting for a turnaround. It also gave Irsay-Gordon an opportunity to establish her leadership style quickly, stepping into the spotlight at a time when the team needed stability and direction.

Her elevation to the top role represents a major change in the Colts’ structure and identity, marking the start of a new chapter while still honoring the legacy built by her father. With this international recognition, Irsay-Gordon is being acknowledged not only as an NFL owner, but as a civic leader whose impact is being felt on a global scale.

As her tenure begins, the award signals that Carlie Irsay-Gordon’s influence is expected to reach well beyond the football field—and that Indianapolis’ newest sports leader is already building a reputation with international weight.
