A 34-year-old pregnant woman was killed in a shooting Tuesday evening on Flint’s south side, and her newborn son is now fighting for his life after being delivered at the hospital.
Police responded to reports of gunfire around 5:45 p.m. in the 300 block of Browning Avenue. When officers arrived, they found a woman suffering from gunshot wounds. She was transported to Hurley Medical Center, where she later died from her injuries.

Family members have identified the victim as Ashley Williams, who was 36 weeks pregnant at the time of the shooting. Despite efforts to save her, Williams did not survive. However, doctors were able to deliver her baby boy after she was brought to the hospital.
The infant was immediately transferred to the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit at Hurley Children’s Hospital. As of Wednesday morning, the baby remained on life support. According to relatives, he is in critical condition and continues to fight for survival.

Authorities have not released details about what led to the shooting. The Flint Police Department said the investigation is ongoing and declined to provide additional information Wednesday morning. Police have not confirmed whether any suspects have been identified or if arrests have been made.
The tragedy has shaken the community, particularly given the circumstances surrounding Williams’ pregnancy. At 36 weeks, she was nearing full term. Friends and family members have expressed heartbreak over the loss, mourning not only Williams but also the uncertain condition of her newborn son.
As investigators work to piece together what happened, police are urging anyone with information about the shooting to come forward. Detectives are expected to canvass the area and review any available surveillance footage as part of the inquiry.
The incident marks another act of gun violence in the city, leaving loved ones grappling with sudden loss and a fragile new life hanging in the balance. Community members have gathered in support of Williams’ family as they await updates on the baby’s condition.
For now, the focus remains on both seeking justice for Williams and hoping for the recovery of her son. Hospital officials have not released additional medical details about the infant’s prognosis. Law enforcement officials say more information will be provided as the investigation progresses.
